Objectives
The Social Service Worker program will give you the skills, knowledge and self-awareness to enter the rewarding field of social service. We teach client-centred, empowering-based approaches to helping others. The curriculum offers a unique exposure and insight into Aboriginal history, culture and practice, which will be valuable to those students seeking employment in northern communities.

Practical experience
For all field placements a security check will be required. This may be obtained from local police departments and is at the student’s expense. Students will complete two field placements - a two-week placement in the second semester and a 10 to 12 week placement (400 hours) in the fourth semester. Students can expect to find placements in a variety of settings including: * School Boards * Youth Centres * Long-Term Care Facilities * Transition Houses for Abused Women * Family Resource Centres * Children’s Aid Society * Correctional Settings * Crisis Centres * Community Mental Health Services * Association for Community Living
