Objectives
Canadore’s three-year Journalism - Print and Broadcast program prepares students to enter this fast-paced field. Students will learn to conduct background research, plan and conduct interviews, take photographs, shoot video and record audio. They will have the opportunity to do live on-air interviews for the college’s radio and television stations; they will also write editorials and do desktop layout for the college’s online newspaper. The program’s final year brings those skills together as the students prepare for a six-week work placement in the industry, where they put theory into practice in the workplace. The program’s focus is on helping the student create and expand a portfolio of work that displays skills across a number of media including radio, television, newspapers, magazines and the Internet. Professional portfolios maximize the graduate’s chance of securing a journalist’s job by proving they have a wide range of skills to meet the challenges of a demanding industry.
