Course description
Skills Building
Students are required to complete the following seven Holland College courses: Planning & Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Recruitment & Selection, Training & Development, Performance Management, Developing Compensation Programs, and Change & Technology. Job-specific skills will be developed through study and practice via individualized and group learning activities.
Field Placement
In addition to the Holland College and UPEI courseware components within the Human Resource Management certificate program, a field placement is required to promote experiential learning and curriculum integration. In order to satisfy this requirement, participants must demonstrate the completion of a 4-week or 150 hour on-the job-training experience. This experience must take place in a human resources department or the human resource management function within a professional environment such as a business or government office.
Sequencing
Candidates begin their studies by applying at UPEI for admission into the HRM Certificate program. Once accepted into the program, students can register for the three UPEI credit courses. Following the completion of these courses, students can enroll at Holland College and complete the remaining specialty courses. Students without HRM experience work voluntarily in the human resources office of an organization to meet the field requirement.
