Objectives
The Building Construction Technician program will provide you with the skills to work hands-on in building construction. In this 45-week program you will gain the confidence, knowledge and leadership skills needed to manage a team. You will learn essential skills related to the use of tools and equipment, the characteristics of building materials, site layout, foundation systems, forming for concrete foundations, framing methods and techniques for floors, walls and roof systems, stair design and construction, and exterior and interior finishes. Construction safety is stressed throughout. Students will also learn how to identify, interpret and apply the requirements of Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code to all aspects of house and small building construction. Reading and interpreting plans for buildings and estimating costs of construction based on material quantity surveys complement the trade skills acquired through completion of the program.
