Objectives
Operations Management has traditionally focused on how to best allocate the scarce resources of labour, machinery, material, money, information and time for a given business entity using both quanti-tative and qualitative tools, techniques and approaches. With the new Major in Supply Chain Operations Management (SCOM), this focus shifts from the unit enterprise to the entire supply chain with all its stakeholders. Hence, integration along the supply chain is a pivotal theme of this Major. The courses cover the modelling and managerial aspects of forecasting, production planning, scheduling, inventory management, logistics and technology management along the supply chain. This is then followed by a project course that emphasizes the integration theme in a real-life manufacturing or service environment. Case studies, simulation games, field trips and guest speakers from industry and business are all part of the course delivery, exposing students to current and leading-edge supply chain practices.
