RESP-1007 - Laboratory Procedures 2
The content of this course allows the student to perform practical application of equipment and procedures as discussed in RESP 1005 in a controlled and supervised laboratory setting.
RESP-1011 - Physics-Respiratory Therapy
This is an applied medical physics course dealing with the principles and laws that govern the physical and chemical properties of fluids at rest and in motion. Emphasis is on the gaseous phase and how the pressure, temperature, density and viscosity influence the type of flow through medical delivery equipment.
RESP-1012 - Pathophysiology-Intro
This introductory level course is intended to introduce the student to the process of disease and its physiological effects on the body. The course will begin with a general overview of disease and pathophysiology, common terms and definitions and a review of cell structure and abnormal growth patterns.
RESP-1016 - Physiological Chemistry 2
This course is a continuation of Physiological Chemistry I, and continues to concentrate on the chemistry of biological mechanisms. Emphasis will be placed on chemical principles related to maintenance of acid- base balance within the fluid compartments of the human body.
RESP-3001 - Diagnostic Procedures 1
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the fundamental diagnostic procedures utilized in the field of Respiratory Therapy. This course provides an in-depth study of the basis and rationale behind the diagnosis, testing and treatment of cardiopulmonary and associated disorders. Emphasis is also placed on invasive and non-invasive cardiac and pulmonary diagnostic procedures and equipment, i.e., arterial blood gas analysis and electrocardiogram interpretation.
RESP-3002 - Mechanical Ventilation 1
This course will acquaint the student with normal and abnormal lung conditions encountered when a patient is mechanically ventilated. There will be in-depth discussion of the physical characteristics of the ventilator as used in the acute and chronic care settings to respond to the patient's ever changing lung conditions.
