ObjectivesThis program is designed to provide a theoretical as well as a clinical orientation to Operating Room Nursing. Topics will include the surgical environment, surgical asepsis, basic anatomy and physiology, safety, teamwork, communication, basic set-ups, handling and care of surgical instruments, sutures, handling and care of surgical specimens, and specialized procedures and their respective equipment. Students will obtain a post-diploma certificate upon successful completion of the program.
Entry requirementsInterested individuals must be practicing Registered Nurses or Registered Practical Nurses entering an Operating Room position and provide proof of a current certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.

* ORN 7000 Intro to Operating Room Nursing
* ORN 7010 Intra Operative Nursing - OR Part I
* ORN 7015 Intra Op Nursing - OR Part II
* ORN 7020 Immediate Post-Operative Nursing
* ORN 7025 OR Nursing Clinical Practicum
** Note: Registered Practical Nurses are not required to complete ORN 7020
for the Operating Room Nursing Certificate.
