ObjectivesThe Program teaches students the essential skills required to work in today's theatre industry using professionally equipped facilities. The Theatre Program offers training to future actors as well as to students interested in working behind the scenes on the technical and design aspects of theatre productions. Actors gain experience in both the intimacy of a studio theatre and on a full-sized proscenium stage, while designers and technicians develop their skills through hands-on production experience. Students begin working on stage productions in their second semester and spend roughly a quarter of their time on them each semester.

Course descriptionStudents in the Acting Option (561.C0) take classes in acting for the stage, acting for the camera, theatre creation, performance, movement, voice, text, professional management and theatre history during the three years of the program. Areas of concentration include improvisation, character study, speech, text analysis, mime, dance, masks and rehearsal work related to scene study, auditioning, and all fully staged productions.
The Design Option provides professional instruction in stimulating and imaginative behind-the-scene careers. You will explore many aspects of Design, including Set and Costume Design, Lighting and properties and how they apply to theatre and other camera associated media. There will be an emphasis on practicality, public performances and productions.
The Technical Option provides an exciting and creative curriculum of courses which covers all the technical and design aspects of Lighting, Sound, Scenic Construction and Properties Fabrication. You will receive training in the organizational skills required fr stage and production management in the theatre and entertainment industry. In conjunction with the Acting and Desigh Options there will be a great emphasis on public performances and production.
