HLTH-1101 - Research Principles: Intro
This is an introductory course into scientific methods and principles of research. Topics will include the four components of scientific methods, a historical perspective of the philosophy of research and the past, present and future of ethics in research. The student will learn where research comes from, how the theories have changed over time, and through scientific methods, how research can pertain to any of their lives.
RADL-1001 - Radiographic Procedures 1
In this course the student is introduced to the fundamental principles involved in positioning patients for radiographic examinations using simulated practical situations. The student will also gain experience in identifying radiographic anatomy of the related areas. The correlation of anatomy and physiology to the clinical environment is emphasized. Communication skills and management of routine and non-routine case scenarios will be discussed. The student will present a professional manner and appearance in the classroom and lab setting.
RADL-1002 - Diagnostic Imaging 1
This course provides a sound knowledge base of the process involved in both the formation and the quality of the diagnostic image. Emphasis will be placed on recording materials, absorption characteristics, and technical factors used to record diagnostic images. Laboratory sessions and discussion of experimental data help to reinforce the lecture content.
RADL-1003 - Medical Radiation Sciences 1
This course will involve the science of radiographic imaging using presentations integrating theory, construction and proper use of the accessory equipment for general radiography.Topics are specifically technical in nature requiring an aptitude/interest in physics and technology.
RADL-1004 - Patient Care
This course is an introduction to the patient care aspect in radiography. The role and skills required by a radiographer will be presented with emphasis on developing effective communication skills for both patients and other health care professionals. Basic principals of medication administration, body mechanics, and patient safety will be discussed. Infection control precautions and vital sign procedures introduced will prepare the student for the clinical environment. Pharmacology and contrast media introduction will also be discussed.
RADL-1005 - Anatomy & Physiology 1
This course involves the study of the structures and functions of the organizational systems of the human body. The material includes an introduction to anatomical terminology, body regions and planes; body tissues including osseus tissue; musculoskeletal systems, respiratory system and the anatomy of the brain. The correlation of anatomy and physiology to clinical situations will also be emphasized.
RADL-1006 - Pathology
This course relates common pathologies to their radiographic appearances. The focus is radiographic appearances and technical considerations regarding each pathology. Images from other medical radiation imaging modalities such as ultrasound, magnetic resonance and nuclear imaging will also be explored.Consult the Program Division Policy for additional information on course evaluation and progression.
RADL-1007 - Radiation Protection & Radiobiology
Course material includes types, sources and biologic effects of ionizing radiation. This course provides the necessary knowledge concerning methods of limiting radiation exposure to patients, public and workers when administering diagnostic x-rays.
RADL-1008 - Specialized Procedures
This course will introduce the student to more complex specialized procedures in diagnostic imaging. Pathological conditions associated with the related areas will be emphasized. Advanced patient care techniques will be introduced with emphasis on proper handling, personal needs and aseptic environments. This course will enable the student to recognize and deal with basic emergency situations. The student will become familiar with physician requisitions for radiological exam.
RADL-1009 - Professional Issues
The student is introduced to professional issues confronting health care providers. The topics for discussion include professional associations, regulatory bodies legislated acts, and The Standards of Practice as they relate to medical radiation technologists. Sexual abuse prevention, workplace harassment issues affecting the health care provider, and learning to deal with death and dying will be addressed. A QA project will acquaint students with what is expected of them upon successful completion of the program.
RADL-1011 - Clinical Practicum 1
The purpose of this course is to allow the student to apply the didactic knowledge in the clinical environment. As the course progresses, the student will advance to more complicated examinations under the supervision of a clinical co-ordinator and staff technologists.
RADL-1012 - Theory Review Test 1
The purpose of this course is to provide a standardized review of all didactic material covered in the academic semesters at the College. The exams, prepared by college faculty, will be administered at the College.
RADL-3001 - Radiographic Procedures 2
In this course the student will complete the procedures for imaging the skeletal system and skull. They will be introduced to more complex procedures in radiographic positioning of various body systems. Skills acquired in RADL1001, allows the student to continue to develop communication and organizational techniques and the ability to problem solve more difficult case scenarios.
RADL-3002 - Diagnostic Imaging 2
The subject material of this course will provide the student with a knowledge of sensitometry, quality control, silver recovery, image artifacts, and digital image recording. The student will gain the knowledge to be applied for manual and automatic exposure systems, and related technique charts.
RADL-3003 - Medical Radiation Sciences 2
Course material will include the physics and construction of x-ray producing equipment, and physics of radiation. Radiographic equipment will be studied in the categories, or subdivisions of imaging, found in large, modern-imaging departments. Topics are specifically technical in nature requiring an aptitude/interest in technology.
RADL-3004 - Anatomy & Physiology 2
In this course the learner will acquire knowledge of the control and maintenance of systems of the body. The material includes cardiovascular, lymphatic, digestive, urinary, endocrine, respiratory and reproductive systems. Anatomy of the brain will be the precursor to the nervous system. All body systems will be related to radiology.
RADL-3005 - Cross Sectional Anatomy
This course will introduce the student to sectional anatomy of the head, thorax, abdomen, and pelvis. Anatomy will be presented in transverse, sagittal and coronal planes. The emphasis will be on interpretation of CT and MRI images. Independent learning is required using anatomy atlases and digital anatomy media.

The purpose of this course is to allow the student to continue application of the didactic knowledge in the clinical environment. The student will be introduced to more complex procedures under the supervision of a clinical co-ordinator and staff technologists.
RADL-3008 - Theory Review Test 2
The purpose of this course is to continue to provide a standardized review of didactic material. The exams are prepared by College faculty and administered at the College.
RADL-5001 - Diagnostic Imaging 3
This course will introduce the student to the regulations concerning radiation safety using provincial and federal guidelines with a focus on quality control testing (QC), and quality assurance (QA). Various digital imaging modalities will be explored manipulations and factors affecting digital image quality. Digital image management will be discussed.
RADL-5002 - Medical Radiation Sciences 3
Course material will involve the science of radiographic imaging studied in the categories/modalities found in modern imaging departments. Other medical imaging modalities will be introduced. Topics are specifically technical in nature requiring aptitude/interest in technology.
RADL-5003 - Radiographic Procedures
All theoretical material covered in RADL 1001, RADL 3001 and RADL 1008 will be reviewed in preparation for College final exams and the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists' certification exam.
RADL-5004 - Diagnostic Imaging
All theoretical material covered in RADL1002, RADL3002 and RADL5001 will be reviewed and discussed in detail in preparation for both the College final exams and the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists' certification exam.
RADL-5005 - Medical Radiation Sciences
Didactic material previously presented in RADL1003, RADL3003 and RADL5002 will be reviewed with possible updates or additions.
RADL-5006 - Patient Care
The material presented in previous didactic semesters, as well as in the clinical setting of the program, will be reinforced to prepare for both the College final exams and the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists' certification exam.
RADL-5007 - Anatomy & Physiology
In this course the learner will review material in the previous didactic semesters of the program. The material includes an in-depth review of the 11 body systems. This knowledge will be applied to the application of related Medical Radiation Technology content in preparation for the final semester examinations and the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists' certification exam.
RADL-5008 - Pathology
Didactic material previously presented in RADL1006 will be reviewed with possible updates or additions.
RADL-5009 - Radiation Protection & Radiobiology
Didactic material previously presented in RADL1007 will be reviewed with possible updates or additions.
RADL-5010 - Specialized Imaging Modalities
This course will introduce the student to alternate imaging modalities which compliment and/or supplement medical radiation technology. Advances in these areas will also be discussed.
RADL-5011 - Clinical Practicum 4
The purpose of this course is to expose the students to increasing responsibility and develop competence in progressively more complex techniques and procedures as they proceed from semesters four through seven.
