Master of Applied Science in Civil Engineering

  • Objectives Civil Engineering is concerned with the engineering (planning, design and construction) of systems of constructed facilities related to the needs of society. The scope and complexity as well as the interdisciplinary involvements of Civil Engineering continues to increase rapidly with the development of modern science and technology and the population growth with its spiraling demands upon the air-land-water environment. The preparation of the Civil Engineering student is aimed toward meeting these challenges through innovative application of known principles, creative research to discover new approaches, and imaginative design to fulfill society's needs.
  • Academic title Master of Applied Science in Civil Engineering
  • Course description

The Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree is primarily intended for those seeking to enhance their depth and breadth of engineering knowledge beyond the bachelor's level, and who will subsequently be involved in day-to-day design activities. Credit for the degree comes from a combination of coursework (7 courses) plus a design project and seminar. Students are required to give an oral presentation of their project results. M. Eng. program can be completed on a part-time basis.

The Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.) degree is generally more appropriate for students interested in pursuing a career in research and development. The program of study consists of 4 courses, a seminar, and a research thesis. The thesis results must be summarized and defended in an oral presentation. In most cases, full-time students complete all the requirements for a Master's degree in 16 to 24 months.

Not all classes are offered every year. Please consult the current timetable for this year's offerings.
