Information Technology Applications and Technical Support Certificate
ObjectivesThis program is designed to provide an individual with the skills needed to become employed in an entry level position in Information Technology. The graduate will be able to secure employment in an organization that requires knowledge in the areas of hardware, software, customer service and support, as well as networking and web design. The program will address fundamental skills in a number of areas including operating systems such as Windows and Linux, Health and Safety, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Electrical/Electronics, Soldering, Customer Service, Networking, Computer Maintenance, Job Search, Web Page Design, and Documentation. The graduate will be able to participate in technical conversations, install, configure, and operate standard office software applications and maintain the hardware components of office personal computers. They will be qualified to setup and maintain a standard networking system, create a full document system for tracking hardware/software and service calls, control and safety measures, and be capable of training staff. They would also learn how to design and maintain interactive web sites.

Course descriptionIn some of the program courses, students follow the curriculum from the International Computer Driving Licence program. Those students who successfully pass the ICDL examinations will receive International Computer Driving Licence Certificates from ICDL.
In addition, students will have opportunity to study both in lab form and independently some of the knowledge and skills needed for the CompTIA A+ Certification exams.
Graduates will also receive a certificate after successfully finishing the Train-The-Trainer course.

BUS1180 Customer Service
Description: This course will introduce the participant to customer service strategies such as customer awareness, conversation techniques, identifying the customer, responding to situations, listening skills, outbound and inbound techniques and meeting customer expectations. The importance of customer satisfaction and fostering customer relationships will be explored. In many business scenarios the IT support person will provide "Help Desk" services. This course will place particular emphasis on this support role as it relates to achieving high customer satisfaction.

CDEV1140 Career Planning and Communications
Description: This course is comprised of two modules including personal assessment and employment and job search skills. This course provides learners with an opportunity to develop their personal and career profile. Students will review their learning styles, personal and career values, transferable skills and accomplishments. Assessment of strengths and skills will build self-esteem and effectiveness in human relations and career planning. The second component will provide students with employment skills by developing verbal and written business communications and how to be a team player, develop problem solving and decision making skills. Students will gain the knowledge of how to prioritize, set goals and be well organized to enhance personal and employment time management skills.

Description: This course provides participants with a hands-on introduction to the basic concepts and terms used in the world of personal computers as well as an introduction of hardware, software, system software, application software, and how they relate to the system unit. Upon completion of the course, participants will know how a computer can work with them to perform a variety of tasks in a technical environment.

EECE1510 Soldering Techniques
Description: This course provides participants with a hands-on introduction to the basic concepts of circuit board analysis and repair. Participants will use industry standard tools to remove/replace integrated circuits from circuit boards as part of troubleshooting and repair. The participants will develop those skills necessary to perform thru-mount soldering repairs as well as use a multimeter to assess a board for repair.
