ObjectivesThis part-time certificate program will provide the necessary skills to work in a Human Resources department. Topics covered include understanding human behaviour in an organization, the labour market, compensation schemes, health and safety legislation, the importance of training, information systems for human resources, interviewing, hiring and understanding how unions relate to management. The program has nine mandatory courses and one elective course. Most courses in the program are approved to be used for the National Knowledge Exam course requirements for the CHRP designation through the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA).

Description: This course is designed to teach human resources practitioners the financial and managerial accounting they require. The accounting dimension involved in the management of the human resources function itself will also be taught. Students should bring a calculator to the first class. Description: A study of what people think, feel and do in and around organizations, this course examines the behaviour of individuals working alone or in teams. Giving actual work place examples, it examines how factors affect organizational effectiveness. Description: This course explores the ways an HR strategy can be linked to overall business strategy. Providing HR practitioners with the information required to justify an HRIS to senior management this course teaches students to conduct a needs analysis, select a software package, and implement a computer system. Description: Providing a working knowledge of labour and employment legislation, this course studies topics ranging from Employment Standards and Human Rights to the impact of these Acts on items such as hiring, termination, union certification and union decertification.
