Heavy Equipment Operator - Tractor Loader Backhoe Certificate
ObjectivesThe Heavy Equipment Operator- Tractor Loader Backhoe program is designed to provide the apprentice with the "in-school" theoretical and practical training in heavy equipment operation, designed to complement the "on-the-job" training provided by the employer. The apprentice will complete 90 hours of training at in-school with the remaining 150 hours at an actual work site.

MOTV1100 Introduction and Safety
Description: The course will teach the student to describe and demonstrate the proper use of personal protective equipment, safe operating practices and safe communication methods. Students will also be instructed on the fundamentals of earthmoving, site plan drawings and government legislation. Students will be required to describe basic rigging principles and procedures for loading equipment and attachments onto a transporter.

MOTV1110 Pre-Operation Inspection
Description: The student will acquire the ability to describe and demonstrate and inspection procedures/processes for the following systems and their components - cooling, engine lubrication, electrical, drive train, hydraulic, suspension, cab and load bearing structure.

MOTV1120 General Preventative Maintenance
Description: This course will ensure that students can demonstrate basic maintenance procedures on the operator station area, the front and rear steering, drives, buckets and attachments. Maintenance will also include the proper selection and use of lubricants. The student will develop, complete and maintain log sheets and develop and demonstrate a complete circle check on the equipment.

MOTV1150 Transporting Tractor Loader Backhoe
Description: This course will teach the student to safely prepare, load, secure and unload equipment and attachments using a transporter and to actually transport a tractor loader backhoe.

MOTV1160 Operate Tractor Loader Backhoe
Description: This hands-on course will teach the student to safety perform start-up procedures, site planning and setup, install attachments and test equipment operation. The student will perform excavating and trenching operations, grading, loading, ramp building, stockpiling and backfilling operations. The student will also be required to perform hoisting and shuttling operation and equipment shutdown.
