ObjectivesIn Cambrian's ESL Program, students will learn English through classroom instruction by meeting Canadian students and by exploring the life of a mid-sized Canadian city. Students will be assigned a Cambrian student with whom to practise English. Cambrian College welcomes ESL students at any level, from beginner to advanced. The ESL staff at the College are highly qualified. The College has the most advanced teaching and learning materials that come from up-to-date textbooks, magazines, newspapers, television and the Internet. By the end of one year, students should be successful in the everyday language requirements of Canadian life and should have a solid foundation for future studies.

Course descriptionSemester 1
# ESL1105 - 012 - Module I
Students will study the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks. The course also includes academic study skills, tutoring and a language lab to help students acquire English skills.
# ESL1110 - 013 - Module II
The four skill areas are expanded and reinforced based on topics that relate to Canadian culture and education. Students will develop reading strategies, use more complex sentences patterns, expand their vocabulary and develop oral classroom skills.
Semester 2
# ESL1205 - 012 - Module III
Students will improve their accuracy in using English in classroom situations. Activities will help students to improve their oral presentation skills, develop essay writing skills, acquire study skills and practice listening to lectures.
