Emergency Management Ontario College Graduate Certificate

  • Objectives This unique program offers training and knowledge in fields related to emergency and disaster planning. The program features a faculty with both academic credentials and extensive real-life experience in emergency management as well as guest speakers from various aid agencies. The program is designed to give graduates multidisciplinary background knowledge in this field and holistic training to work with communities. Students learn the essentials of emergency management practice including hazard identification and risk assessment; the characteristics of various hazards; the creation of Community Emergency Response Plans; the design and creation of Emergency Operations Centres; adult education methods for training municipal staff and the general public; the creation and staging of emergency training exercises; the technologies used by communities to respond to a disaster; and the techniques used to help the community, the population, and community businesses recover from the effects of a disaster.
  • Entry requirements The Emergency Management program is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate program. Therefore, students admitted must have a related diploma or degree or experience in a related field which prepares them for the more advanced course material.
