ObjectivesThis two-year diploma program prepares students for employment in a variety of careers in the community and justice services field. Students are trained in the legal and theoretical aspects of crime and behaviour, interviewing and intervention skills for young and adult offenders, and victims, as well as in security measures and techniques. The program includes the study of female and native offenders, addictions, group dynamics, behaviour management and the role of victims in the Canadian Justice System. Classroom studies in second year are enhanced by two 6-week blocks of field placement in a community and justice services setting. This on-the-job training permits students to make immediate and significant contributions to the field. Students develop good communication and writing skills. Emphasis is placed on writing reports, assessments and case management, as well as client/worker interactions.
