Diploma in Business Administration - Chinook Option

  • Objectives The Chinook program is a three-year program in business foundations and fundamentals that will allow students of Aboriginal ancestry* to gain the skills required for a career in business. It is equivalent to the two year diploma in general business, stretched over three years to accommodate the additional Chinook courses.
  • Entry requirements Students who are interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce Degree at UBC.

  • Course description The first year is designed to prepare you for business studies, and includes courses in math, computer training and communication skills development.

    In the second and third years you'll continue to study math, economics, communications, accounting, additional business topics, and First Nations studies. In addition, you'll take an integrative Chinook Program course as a visiting student at the University of British Columbia.

    Required electives:

    *Chinook 1 and Chinook Work placement will likely occur during the summer semester. Chinook 1 could continue through the Winter semester of Year 2.

    **These courses, plus the Chinook courses, are required if you intend to transfer to UBC to complete the Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Chinook Major). You must also complete Applied Calculus (MATH 108) and Managerial Cost Accounting 2 (ACCT 320) before you can be admitted into the UBC BCOM program.

    The two elective courses may be first, second, third or fourth-year Arts or Science University Transfer courses, or second, third or fourth-year Business courses, and include no more than one ABT course. We recommended you choose these courses as electives for transfer to UBC: ENGL 164 First Nations Literature, CRIM 135 First Nations and Justice, SOC 104 First Nations (Canada Past), SOC 106 First Nations (Canada Present).
