Prepare for a career in professional dental offices ranging from general dentists to dental specialists such as orthodontists and oral surgeons. Students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills required for employment including office administration, computer and fundamental medical terminology skill sets. At the start of the program, students are introduced to Microsoft Word and Excel, medical fundamentals, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Dental office administrative responsibilities such as transcription, software applications and dental reception procedures follow in later phases as students become more familiar with the course material. Students will also complete a special term/phase, which includes theory and practical training in dental radiography. As part of the diploma program, students must complete work experience in a practicum approved by CDI College. This practicum allows students to experience a real work environment and to apply their dental office skills and knowledge on the job. In addition, the Dental Receptionist Coordinator diploma program offers a workplace skills course, which focuses on job searching and interviewing, employer expectations, and job counselling services. Graduates of the Dental Receptionist Coordinator diploma program can also find work opportunities in dental distribution or manufacturing companies, hospitals, and laboratories.
