ObjectivesFamily Life Education is a multidisciplinary field that attempts to improve the quality of life for individuals and families across the life cycle. This is accomplished using a preventative approach in a small group context. The aim of the Certificate in Family Life Education is to increase knowledge and skills relevant for persons who wish to conduct family life education programmes in: social and community service agencies; hospitals; schools and after-school programs; employee assistance programs or wellness programs in business organizations; multidisciplinary teams in learning centers; and, religious institutions.
Practical experienceThere is a fieldwork portion of this certificate program.
Entry requirementsThe program is also designed for those who, although qualified in their own professions, wish to obtain additional training and practice in: 1) group leadership and small group dynamics; 2) interpersonal relations and communications; 3) designing, facilitating and evaluating programmes and workshops; and, 4) prevention work with individuals and families.

* 9 elective credits in Applied Human Sciences chosen from Self-Managed Learning; Respecting Diversity in Human Relations; Introduction to Intervention in Human Systems; Interviewing; Adolescence: Issues and Intervention; Adulthood: Patterns and Transitions; Older Adulthood: Issues and Intervention; Gender and Leisure; Power and Conflict Resolution in Human Systems; Play, Adult Learning and Development; The Older Adult and Leisure; and Health Promotion.
