This course is designed to accommodate various ability levels. The individualized learning modules are to develop the student's ability to read, write, and perform basic computer operations. The student will appreciate the importance of math in everyday life and will develop practical and functional math skills. In addition to developing consumer awareness, such as consumer purchases, comparison-shopping, and sale items, this course provides the fundamentals of communication skills necessary for our multicultural workplace.

The skills category, Employability skills, covers a wide range of skills that are necessary for job readiness, job seeking, and job retention. Other topics covered include personal strengths, job interests, work ethic and habits, employment barriers, interview preparation, work standards, procedures during the first few days on the job, work safety, and personal hygiene.
# BBP1110 - 003 - Community Living Skills I
This course enables students to develop skills that will allow them to become familiar with and feel comfortable on campus as well as in the community. Students will have the opportunity to utilize the facilities available to them at Cambrian College and to participate in various off-campus activities. Physical and mental health is an important component of this course and necessary for healthy living. The development of an individual life plan is designed to establish self-advocacy strategies, goals, and an action plan, which are practiced during the academic year.
# BBP1115 - 003 - The World Around Us
This course will focus on the development of student awareness on community, local, national, and global issues in our world today. Topics include the environment, local politics, science, geography, reading maps, time zones, weather, cultures, and other areas of relevance.
# CPL1100 - 004 - Community Placement I
This course is the component that provides the student with actual work experience. The student will begin to view various work sites and participate in job placements in a supported manner. A job coach will assist the student on the job site and then monitor progress as the student moves to independence.
Semester 2
# BBP1200 - 006 - Applied Academic Skills II
This course is designed to accommodate various ability levels. The individualized learning modules are used to develop the student's ability to read, write, use a word processor, email, and interact on the Internet. This course will develop personal money matters such as budgeting, banking, savings, income and expenses, estimating, and will explore other personal needs. This course also develops communication skills such as listening, speaking, and body language, necessary in a variety of social situations.
# BBP1205 - 003 - Career Preparation II
This course provides the student with extensive preparation and support for opportunities in entry-level positions. Training continues in the three main skills categories, Social Skills, Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Skills, and Employability Skills. Other topics covered include a personal job search plan, job researching, networking with employers, and self-marketing strategies. The course will also focus on the achievement of success on the job. Practical experiences will be acquired from job placements within the community.
# BBP1210 - 003 - Community Living Skills II
This course enables students to develop skills, which will allow them to become familiar with and feel comfortable with accessing services in our community. Students will become active in organizing and participating in several off-campus activities. Physical and mental issues are promoted throughout the program. The focus for this semester is independent living and the issues that surround it.
