ObjectivesStudents in Television Broadcasting will learn critical skills with specific attention paid to shooting, producing and editing broadcast material. Students will use a camera to make broadcast quality video, which includes live studio production roles, field production, editing, graphics creation, lighting and the use of sound. Performance skills, announcing, audio production, creative writing, research and interviewing, news gathering and the use of digital effects are also explored. In second-year, television students bring together their first-year skills in broadcast performance, technical operations, advanced editing and producing shows on location through the use of their new TV Mobile unit which they use to broadcast everything from sporting events to parades! Students will develop editing skills that focus on advanced techniques such as keyframes, chroma-key and other graphic applications used in non-linear editing.

Description: In this course, students will develop television anchoring skills. Practical projects focus on presentation and studio production techniques related to delivery of content to a TV audience. Description: In this course students will work as a team to produce TV mobile productions. Students cover community events, engaging in the planning and preparation of remote coverage. Assigned crew positions will allow students to understand and explore the roles of producers, directors and crew members.

BRT2300 Advanced Editing
Description: Students will shoot and edit video projects that introduce new technologies and approaches to production. Through the use of enhanced graphics, lighting, animation and effects filters they will explore new production techniques. Group projects will improve the students’ ability to work effectively and efficiently toward common goals. Practical assignments will include the application of specialized editing software.

BRT2340 Television Digital Media
Description: Students will use computer software to develop a variety of show elements including specialized graphics and animations. A focus is placed on programs used in conjunction with non-linear editing software.

BRT2350 Television Careers and Field Experience
Description: In the final 4 weeks of the semester, students will participate in a work related activity at a TV station or production facility. Students will also contribute a total of 16 hours during the full semester toward a project related to their goals in the industry.
