Bioinformatics for Software Professionals Ontario College Graduate Certificate
ObjectivesBioinformatics is an exciting new field that integrates computers with biology. The recent explosion of available biological data types has created an increasing demand for skilled bioinformatics specialists with comprehensive training in both biology and software. The program offers software students a career specialization in the field of bioinformatics. This intensive hands-on, problem-based program will include course work, an individual research thesis and a co-op component, providing graduates with the unique skill set and training that are in high demand in the field. Much of the study level of this curriculum is beyond the Bachelor's degree. The interdisciplinary nature of the program curriculum will provide students with a comprehensive background in biological sciences coupled with specific, advanced training in computational biology. Courses will cover the theoretical background, practical applications and limitations of current bioinformatics tools, while imparting the ability to develop new tools to deal with future computational demands in the rapidly growing field of bioinformatics.
Practical experienceThere is an optional co-op aspect associated with this program.
