Entry requirementsThe program is designed to accommodate career objectives for two different groups of students: people who intend to eventually pursue graduate studies to do research in Child Study or Educational Psychology or those who intend to work with children in settings such as daycare, hospitals and after school care.

Course descriptionChild Studies is a 90 credit 3 year program. It offers courses in the foundations of educational practice that introduce the student to theory of child development and other issues related to the care of children in today's social context. As well, specialized courses in 3 specific sub areas: Administration in Childhood Settings, Exceptional Children and Children and Technology further prepare students to work with children in particular areas of child care. A practicum in a child care setting of the student's choosing is a required part of the program normally done in the final year of study. Child Studies provides an excellent basis for students wishing to pursue graduate degrees in the field of child development and learning in either the practical or research context.
Program content is as follows:
* 21 required credits in psychology of education, child development, library research practices in education, historical and philosophical foundations of early childhood education, child studies practicum
* 9 required credits from the area of primary concentration
* 6 required credits from the area of secondary concentration
* 9 elective credits from the introduction to the philosophy of education, sex role socialization in the school, teaching a second language in early childhood and elementary school, educational aspects of physical activity, health and wellness, sociology of education, comparative education or advanced topics in education
