ObjectivesThe Therapeutic Recreation Program prepares graduates to plan, implement and evaluate a wide range of leisure services for children, adolescents, adults and older adults who experience a barrier to a healthy leisure lifestyle. Students learn how to work with individuals and groups to assess their needs and interests in order to facilitate meaningful recreation and leisure experiences with and for them. These services facilitate positive changes in clients to aid in achieving optimal health and well being through independent and personally fulfilling leisure lifestyles. The program stresses the application of theory with its model of classroom related courses which incorporate community experiences and assignments and practicum/preceptorship/service-learning placements.
